VESSEL HEADS – DISHED ENDS
Basically, the
dished ends are used in pressure vessels and storage tank. Dished end consider
as a end caps of the vessel. Dished end is the important pressure element of
the pressure vessel due to which it plays major role during designing of the
vessel. Dished ends is both ends of vessel may top/bottom or left right etc
welded with vessel shell. The shapes of the pressure vessel heads ie. Dished
ends is vary as per requirement and service, the common types of dished ends as
listed below,
A) Hemispherical Dished Ends.
B) Tori-spherical Dished Ends.
C) 2:1 Ellipsoidal Dished Ends.(Elliptical Dished
Ends)
D) Conical Dished Ends.
E) Flat Head Dished Ends.
F) Diffuser Head Dished Ends.
Pressing or forming of above dished ends
done by either cold forming or hot forming process as per requirement and type
of dished ends one thing noted that if the dished formed by cold forming then
may be heat treatment required after forming and in case of hot forming the heat
treatment not required.

After forming the thickness
of dished ends at knuckle area is reduces slightly due to which during
designing of vessel dished ends considering extra thickness.
Many types of dished ends
used in industries produced by different methods as cold forming, hot forming, spinning,
deep drawing and manufacturing of dished ends in crown and petal segments,
dishing and flanging is also the process by which either can formed any type of
dished ends with high accuracy and productivity. The designing of Dished ends
as per client requirements and standard.
After forming of dished
end the inspection of dished end also plays major role the inspection of dished
end, tolerance as per code, standards, we will discuss in separate chapter, Different
and many numbers of vendors, manufacturer available in market who formed the different
types of dished ends with high accuracy and productivity.
